How To Get Started With Facebook Ads

Facebook ads are now the buzz for most people who run online businesses, ecommerce stores and those who are just starting blogs. The Facebook ads platform is quite simple to get around and it is quite easy to get your ads approved. The other reason for using Facebook ads is it is a lot cheaper than Google/ Search Engine Ads and you can easily get seen by people browsing their newsfeeds. Unlike running a Pay Per Click Campaign on Google where it takes a lot of work to rank on the first page of the search results.  Although google is great for conversions because there are people with intent to purchase or who are actively looking for your product or service.

How do you get right with Facebook ads?

What you need to do is understand your audience. What do they want? What are they looking for? What are they interested in? Start with creating a buyer persona. Imagine your ideal customer. What would make them interested in clicking on your ads? You need to list potential behavior and interests as well as age of your potential client. Facebook has a great algorithm that places ads in front of people who have actually taken an action on their newsfeeds. So yes it may seem like you are going in blindly but you have some kind of x-ray vision which is totally awesome!

What's Next?

You need to start personalizing the ad to suit your audience. It could be an appropriate video or ad  with great copy and a call to action. Depending on your product or service you need to know your call to action so your ad doesn't seem spammy or like clickbait. Nowadays most users online are wiser now and tired of clickbait. So you need to make sure you aren't making any miraculous claims because even Facebook won't approve your ads. Talking about video and image ads, nowadays video ads have a higher click-through rate than image ads. People watch more videos on Facebook nowadays than they pay attention to image ads. Make sure you create a dynamic video that is eye catching. For that I use Adscrisp. They have a 37 in 1 video ads suit and you can use it to promote any product or service with great  image slides options and graphics as well as royalty free music.

You can also try services like Canva, Design Wizard and Stencil to create really good image ads for free and/or for a very  low price from $10  a month.

Bonus!

If you a re really new to Facebook ads and just getting started, here is a free ebook designed to give you a step by step guide to Facebook ads and help you understand how they work.

Budget

People always assume that throwing money at your ads will result in high conversion rates but it's not really true. Of course you can get more impressions per day (people your ad reaches) but that doesn't guarantee the click-through rate and conversions. Make sure you place a budget that isn't too high or too low. Recommended daily budget for a new ad would be $5 to $10/day. Once your ad gains more momentum you can start raising your daily budget and getting more impressions. This will definitely get you more conversions because your ad would have proven itself. If you are not getting clicks, no worries, just tweek it a little and try to see where you are getting it wrong. If you are getting no clicks at all try changing the image/ video and the call to action. If there are clicks and no conversion then change the landing page or your ad copy. Remember clickbait? Well if your ad copy states one thing and the landing pages states another there could be a problem.

Split Testing

This is simply that, split testing. It's running ads for the same offer but with different media (video/ image), call to action and at times different landing page. All this will be done on that same daily budget. So don't worry about the ad spend. This will give you a clearer idea of what your potential customers react better to. After you see which ad works better you can stop running the other ad that isn't performing well and continue running the ad that works well with your clients.

I hope this was helpful and made you consider running Facebook ads to get more traffic to your website, store or blog. If you still need a little help with Facebook ads you can check out the free ebook.
